Western Transdanubia is where our Hungarian freight actually enters the country. The Tornyiszentmiklós crossing sits inside this region, in Zala county where the Slovenian A5 becomes the M70, and every consolidated trailer we run to Hungary — including the ones bound for Debrecen or Szeged — passes through it. That puts Nagykanizsa and the Zala end of the region on the first stretch of Hungarian motorway a trailer touches, and it is the reason this region carries the shortest transit on the corridor; groupage to Hungary departs on Monday and Friday as a rule. Transit is confirmed when we quote the shipment.

The industrial case for the region is Audi. Audi Hungaria's Győr plant has operated since 1993 on cumulative investment of EUR 12.172 billion, and in 2022 it built 1,677,545 engines and 171,134 vehicles with 11,957 people on the payroll. Around it, the Győr Industrial Park — founded 1992, 210 hectares gross — hosts about 100 companies from 13 countries employing some 7,000 people, with 124 plots sold and EUR 702 million invested. For an inbound groupage operator that is a dense, repeat-order supplier belt rather than a single address.

The region does not have a single delivery profile, though, and pretending otherwise would misprice half of it. The northern half is on expressway: the M85 runs roughly 93 km from the M1 at Győr to the Austrian border at Sopron, completed on 14 December 2024 when the final 4.12 km Fertőrákos–Sopron section opened with its 780 m twin tunnel under the Bécsi-domb, and the M86 branches at Csorna and runs north–south as a continuous 2x2 route to the Szombathely area. Coming up from the Slovenian border, that expressway pair is what the last part of the run uses — the part before it is main road 86.

Zalaegerszeg is the exception, and it is a real one. The M76 is tolled for only about 8.4 km — a stub from the M7 at Hollád to the Fenékpuszta area — and the three sections that would close the 34.6 km gap to Zalaegerszeg sit at completed-preparation stage with no construction date; the preparation project's own deadline passed in December 2020. The M9 between Vasvár and Zalaegerszeg, some 54.2 km across 17 municipalities, is in the same state, preparation having ended in August 2021. Main road 74 on to Nagykanizsa, about 50 km, is still single carriageway with substandard curve radii, and its rebuild is planned for the end of 2029. Deliveries into Zala run the last stretch on main roads, and we schedule them that way.

Principales villes desservies

Győr, Sopron, Szombathely, Zalaegerszeg, Nagykanizsa and Mosonmagyaróvár cover the region. Győr and Sopron take the automotive and cross-border industrial volume on expressway all the way; the Zala end of the region is reached on main roads and is planned accordingly.

Infrastructures et logistique locales : Western Transdanubia

The route into Western Transdanubia clears La Jonquera into France, runs the Mediterranean A9/A54/A8 down to Ventimiglia, crosses northern Italy to Fernetti and drops through Slovenia onto the M70 at Tornyiszentmiklós — the crossing is inside this region, in Zala. The region is therefore worked from the south upwards, not from the north down, and its six cities line up from the border northwards: Nagykanizsa and the Zala addresses first, then Zalaegerszeg, Szombathely and Sopron, with Győr — roughly 1,850 km from our Barcelona hub — about 198 km beyond the crossing. The M70 runs into the M7 at Letenye 21 km in; the northbound branch leaves it early for main road 86 through Zala and Vas, picks up the M86 near Szombathely and then the M85 east into Győr, with Sopron staying on the M85 to the Austrian border. Two pieces of infrastructure shape delivery windows here. GYSEV Cargo runs its own container and combined-transport terminal at Sopron with 30,000 m² of storage, six crane-served loading tracks and four storage tracks. The Győr-Gönyű national public port — 110 hectares, 690 running metres of quay, direct rail connection, in operation since 1992 — is one of only three national public ports KSH reports on, and it loaded 225,420 tonnes in 2019. What the southern approach changes is which works matter: the M1 widening to 2x3 lanes plus intelligent hard shoulder — the M0–Bicske phase due in August 2028, Bicske–Concó in August 2029, lane closures live through 2026 — is no longer on the way in, but it still governs anything moving between Győr and Budapest. We build the works into the band rather than discovering them at the border.

Questions fréquentes

What is the transit time from Spain to Győr?

Győr sits roughly 1,850 km from our Barcelona hub and LTL groupage delivers on the Monday and Friday departures, as a rule. Transit is confirmed when we quote the shipment. The region carries the shortest transit of any Hungarian destination we serve because the Tornyiszentmiklós crossing is inside it, in Zala — Nagykanizsa and the Zala addresses are the first ones reached, and Győr is about 198 km further on, north on main road 86 and then the M86 and M85.

Is Zalaegerszeg reached by motorway?

No, and that is worth knowing before you plan a delivery window. The M76 is tolled for only about 8.4 km from the M7 at Hollád, and the 34.6 km of construction that would carry it to Zalaegerszeg is at completed-preparation stage with no construction date. The M9 from Vasvár is in the same position. The last stretch into Zalaegerszeg and on to Nagykanizsa runs on main roads, including main road 74, which is still single carriageway.

What kind of freight moves on this lane?

On our Spain-Hungary consolidations into this region the recurring categories are automotive components, industrial machinery and production tooling, which tracks the Audi plant at Győr and the supplier base around the Győr Industrial Park. Food and beverage and construction materials run alongside it, and pick up share towards the agricultural south of the region.

Which postcodes do you cover?

Prefixes 87 through 99 — the 8700-9999 range covering Győr-Moson-Sopron, Vas and Zala. Any postcode under those prefixes prices as standard Western Transdanubia coverage in the quote form.

Central TransdanubiaSzékesfehérvár · ~1900 km

Central Transdanubia is the county belt the M7 crosses on its way into Budapest, which means freight for this region leaves the motorway before the capital rather than after it. Székesfehérvár sits roughly 1,900 km from our Barcelona hub, and LTL groupage runs on Monday and Friday as a rule, with transit by delivery zone.

Its best-known manufacturer is not on the motorway network. Magyar Suzuki's Esztergom plant is Suzuki Motor Corporation's sole European manufacturing base — it built 160,338 cars in 2023, up 24.3% year on year, exporting 92.9% of output to 123 countries, and 108,072 passenger cars in 2025. The M100 that would link it to the M1 is designed and permitted: 32.3 km, 2x2 lanes, a 110 km/h design speed and, explicitly, no emergency lanes, running from a new M1 junction at Bicske–Mány past three tunnels to the road 117 junction at Esztergom-Kertváros. Its status on the state investment portal reads "preparation completed", with no published completion date. Until it is built, Esztergom deliveries finish on main roads.

The same pattern repeats south. There is no motorway across Fejér county between the M7 and the M6: the M8 section from the M7 to Dunaújváros exists only as a completed design. Dunaújváros itself is on the network via the M6, and the built M8 section east from there to Dunavecse carries the Pentele bridge over the Danube — but the east-west link that would tie the region's southern half together is not there.

What the region does have is Danube frontage and a working industrial base. Four Danube port operators in the region appear in the Hungarian Danube Ports Federation directory: Centroport at Dunaújváros, Adony Logisztikai Központ at Adony, MAFRACHT at Nyergesújfalu and MAHART PassNave at Komárom. None of them is a national public port — KSH names only Baja, Csepel and Győr-Gönyű — and Rail Cargo Group lists no intermodal terminal anywhere in the region, so road remains the way freight arrives here.

Principales villes desservies

Székesfehérvár, Dunaújváros, Tatabánya, Esztergom, Veszprém and Komárom cover the region. Tatabánya and Székesfehérvár sit closest to the motorway spine; Esztergom is reached on main roads until the M100 is built.

Infrastructures et logistique locales : Central Transdanubia

The route into Central Transdanubia enters Hungary at Tornyiszentmiklós, where the M70 runs straight into the M7, and that single road does most of the work: Székesfehérvár sits on the M7 itself, about 190 km of unbroken motorway from the border, and is the first of the region's cities the trailer reaches. The rest fans out from there — Dunaújváros down the M6 south of Budapest, Tatabánya and Komárom off the M1 on the far side, Esztergom north on main roads because the M100 is not built. The change of approach also changes which works bite. The M1 is under reconstruction and widening to 2x3 lanes plus intelligent hard shoulder, phase I from the M0 to Bicske due 31 August 2028 and phase II from Bicske to Concó due 31 August 2029, executed section by section under 2+1+1 lane diversions that hold capacity near 2x2 during works; the operator's live restriction table shows works on the km 16-39 stretch running to 30 September 2026 with lane closures at the Herceghalom and Biatorbágy junctions through August 2026. None of that is on the inbound leg any more, but all of it still governs Tatabánya, Komárom and anything crossing to Budapest. Add Hungary's HGV driving ban under Government Decree 190/2008 and a Saturday afternoon that slips becomes a Monday delivery. Both are already accounted for in the transit we confirm at quotation.

What is the transit time from Spain to Székesfehérvár?

Székesfehérvár is roughly 1,900 km from our Barcelona hub and LTL groupage delivers on the Monday and Friday departures, as a rule. Transit is confirmed when we quote the shipment. The city sits directly on the M7, about 190 km of unbroken motorway from the Tornyiszentmiklós border crossing, and the transit we quote is stated in working days because it already absorbs the Hungarian HGV driving ban.

Can you deliver to the Suzuki plant at Esztergom?

Yes. Esztergom is standard coverage for us, but it is not on the motorway network — the M100 link from the M1 is designed and permitted with no construction date, so the last stretch runs on main roads. We plan the delivery window around that rather than quoting as though the motorway existed.

What kind of freight moves on this lane?

Automotive components and production tooling for the Esztergom plant and its suppliers, electronics and engineering freight for the Székesfehérvár cluster, and construction materials into the Dunaújváros industrial estate. Furniture and e-commerce restocking run alongside them.

Which postcodes do you cover?

Prefixes 24, 25, 28 and 29 plus 80 through 85 — the Fejér, Komárom-Esztergom and Veszprém ranges. Any postcode under those prefixes prices as standard Central Transdanubia coverage.

Southern TransdanubiaPécs · ~1950 km

Southern Transdanubia is the one Hungarian region our trailers reach without going anywhere near Budapest, and the shape of that network decides how the region is served. Pécs sits roughly 1,950 km from our Barcelona hub, with LTL departing on Monday and Friday as a rule and transit by delivery zone.

The M6 crosses Tolna and Baranya on the Szekszárd–Bóly section, about 48.6 km between km 141+300 and km 189+887, operated under concession by Mecsek Autópálya Koncessziós Zrt. From Bóly the M60 runs 30.2 km into Pécs, and in 2024 the M6 was extended from Bóly to the Croatian border at Ivándárda — 19,939 m of new 2x2 carriageway across seven settlements, completed 31 January and opened to traffic on 1 May 2024. Measured off the concession kilometre posts, Pécs is roughly 220 road km from the M6's Budapest origin and Szekszárd about 141 km.

Pécs is a terminus, not a through point. The M60 ends at km 30+200 at the city's southern junction and no motorway continues west towards Barcs or Kaposvár. The M9 exists on the ground only as a junction with the M6 at km 141 near Szekszárd — the northern boundary of the concession — and not as a continuous east-west route across the region. Kaposvár, the seat of Somogy county, is therefore not reached by motorway, and freight for the western half of the region finishes on main roads.

The region's intermodal picture is thin but changing. Rail Cargo Group lists no rail-road terminal in Baranya, Somogy or Tolna. A new national public port is being built at Mohács by the municipality with contracted support of HUF 9.04 billion at a 97.06% aid rate: a 330 m vertical quay wall with three ship berths, roughly 25,900 m² of roads, surfaces and container storage, and two new loading rail tracks giving road-rail-water transhipment off state route 56. Its reception and operations buildings were inaugurated in March 2022; the quay wall was still under construction at the municipality's last published update, against a planned completion date of December 2023. We treat it as a facility that is coming, not one to route freight through today.

Principales villes desservies

Pécs, Kaposvár, Szekszárd, Mohács, Siófok and Komló cover the region. Pécs and Szekszárd sit on the M6/M60 spine; Kaposvár and the western half of the region are reached on main roads.

The region's agricultural and viticultural base around Szekszárd, Villány and Mohács maps to our food and beverage and wine and beverages services, the Pécs engineering and manufacturing base to industrial machinery, and regional building supply to construction materials. Infrastructures et logistique locales : Southern Transdanubia

The route into Southern Transdanubia is the one Hungarian leg that never goes near Budapest, and for a 40 t trailer the quickest way in is not the shortest one on the map. It runs the Slovenian axis and then Croatian motorway, entering Hungary at the M6 end — 1,950 km from our Barcelona hub, with Hungary itself only the last stretch of it. There is a shorter way from the corridor's own crossing at Tornyiszentmiklós, about 187 km across Somogy and Baranya on main roads 61, 6607 and 6, but it is main road the whole way; the figure we publish is the one a loaded trailer actually drives, not the one that looks best. The M6 is therefore the spine here: it reaches the Szekszárd–Bóly concession section and, at Bóly, the M60 into Pécs, and that last 30.2 km is the end of the motorway network in this direction. Nothing continues west of Pécs, so Kaposvár, Barcs and the Somogy interior are served on main roads. The M6's 2024 extension to the Croatian border at Ivándárda is no longer a transit curiosity on this lane — it feeds the same M6 our inbound loads come up, and it has made the Bóly node busier. Hungary's HGV driving ban under Government Decree 190/2008 applies here as everywhere, and with the region sitting at the far end of a single motorway branch, a load that misses its Friday slot generally waits for Monday. That is why the band is quoted in working days.

What is the transit time from Spain to Pécs?

Pécs is roughly 1,950 km from our Barcelona hub and LTL groupage delivers on the Monday and Friday departures, as a rule. Transit is confirmed when we quote the shipment. It is the one Hungarian destination reached without passing Budapest: for a 40 t trailer the quickest way in crosses Croatian motorway onto the M6 and the M60, and the transit we quote is stated in working days because it already accounts for the Hungarian HGV driving ban.

Is Kaposvár reached by motorway?

No. The M60 ends at Pécs at km 30+200 and no motorway continues west towards Kaposvár or Barcs, and the M9 exists only as a junction with the M6 near Szekszárd rather than as an east-west route. Kaposvár is standard coverage for us, but the last stretch runs on main roads and we schedule it that way.

Can you deliver to the port of Mohács?

We deliver into Mohács as a standard destination. The national public port there is still being built — the quay wall was under construction at the municipality's last update, against a planned completion of December 2023 — so we do not route freight through it as a working transhipment point.

BudapestBudapest · ~1950 km

Budapest is the published anchor of the Spain-Hungary corridor: our transit figures are quoted to the capital, roughly 1,950 km from our Barcelona hub, with Monday and Friday departures as a rule and transit by delivery zone. Freight enters Hungary at Tornyiszentmiklós and runs a single continuous motorway leg north-east with no change of road: the M70 becomes the M7 at Letenye and the two are driven as one, the M7 being signed and kilometred from Budapest outwards.

The capital is also where Hungary's intermodal capacity actually sits. The BILK rail-road combined terminal in District XXIII opened in November 2003 on 22 hectares, rail-connected to the electrified Budapest-Kelebia main line and road-connected by a dedicated M0 exit, about 9 km from Csepel port and 16 km from Liszt Ferenc airport; its operator states a handling capability of roughly 220,000 TEU. Around it the BILK logistics park covers about 100 hectares in the Ócsai út industrial zone, with more than 182,000 m² of gross lettable area across 24 buildings, 1,900 parking spaces and 18,000 m² of outdoor storage. Rail Cargo Group's own terminal listing shows BILK as its only intermodal terminal in Hungary.

The Csepel national public port is the second node. KSH recorded it handling 341,089 tonnes loaded and 788,536 tonnes unloaded in 2019 — roughly 1.13 million tonnes — and it is one of only three national public ports in KSH's table, alongside Baja and Győr-Gönyű. Its operator reports three commercial basins with 18 vessel berths and Ro-Ro capability, 15 km of its own rail infrastructure connected to the MÁV network, warehouse units from 500 to 50,000 m² and roughly 1,000 people working on site.

One structural quirk affects every delivery that has to cross the city. The M0 ring is not closed in the north: the missing sector between main roads 11 and 10 — 8,041 m needing twin tunnels of 2,020 m and 3,190 m, two viaducts and three interchanges — is still logged in the preparation phase on the government investment portal, and in February 2024 the municipality of Budakalász stated it had been a state-priority investment for thirteen years without detailed design even starting, with 15,000 vehicles a day passing through the town centre in its place. The eastern sector, opened on 16 September 2008, was deliberately built as a 2x2 expressway rather than a motorway. Crossing Budapest north of the Danube is slower than the map suggests, and we route around it.

Principales villes desservies

Budapest is served as a single coverage area across all 23 districts, with the industrial and logistics weight concentrated in the southern districts — District XXIII around BILK and the Ócsai út zone, and District XXI at Csepel port.

Budapest

Les secteurs clés de cette ligne

The capital generates the corridor's most diversified mix: technology and IT infrastructure freight, automotive components for the southern industrial districts, food and beverage and wine and beverages restocking for the metropolitan retail network, and industrial machinery, construction materials, furniture and e-commerce volume across the city.

Infrastructures et logistique locales : Budapest

The route into Budapest clears La Jonquera, runs the French Mediterranean and northern Italian motorway axis to Fernetti and crosses Slovenia to enter Hungary at Tornyiszentmiklós, from where the M70 and then the M7 run unbroken to the M0 ring — about 236 km of continuous motorway, with the city itself another 16 km on. The approach therefore arrives on the south-western side of the ring rather than the western one, and from the M0 the radials fan out into the city. Two things shape delivery windows. The first is the M0 itself: the ring is open in the north, so cross-city moves between the Buda side and the north-east are slower than the orbital implies. The second is the capital's weight-zone permit regime under Decree 92/2011 of the Budapest Assembly, which governs where heavy vehicles may run and when — combined with the national HGV driving ban under Government Decree 190/2008, it means an arrival that slips past Saturday afternoon waits for Monday. Deconsolidation at the BILK cluster in District XXIII, with its dedicated M0 exit, is what keeps last-mile legs across the city short enough to price as one area.

Do you deliver into the BILK terminal and Csepel port?

Both are standard destinations within our Budapest coverage. BILK in District XXIII has a dedicated M0 exit and is Rail Cargo Group's only intermodal terminal in Hungary; Csepel is one of only three national public ports KSH reports on, handling roughly 1.13 million tonnes in 2019.

Are there access restrictions for trucks in Budapest?

Yes. The capital operates a weight-zone permit regime under Decree 92/2011 of the Budapest Assembly, on top of the national HGV driving ban under Government Decree 190/2008. Both are already accounted for in the transit we confirm at quotation, and our dispatch desk arranges the permit where a delivery address requires one.

Pest CountyBudapest (Pest county seat) · ~1950 km

Pest county wraps around Budapest without including it, and that single administrative fact explains its freight profile. This is where the capital's warehousing actually sits: the county's own logistics review of December 2025 finds the estate concentrated along the M0 in the agglomeration ring and above all in its southern part, with Érd recording 534 registered transport-and-warehousing enterprises in 2024 — the highest of any settlement in the county — and Szigetszentmiklós 369. Logistics enterprises employed more than 35,000 people in the county in 2023, 7.7% of everyone working for Pest county enterprises.

The distribution centres are large and recent. JYSK's Ecser facility opened in 2022 at 143,000 m² with around 300 staff, described as Hungary's largest logistics building and serving seven countries from 2026; eMAG-Extreme Digital runs 117,000 m² at Dunaharaszti; Tesco opened 100,000 m² at Szigetszentmiklós in 2024 with around 900 staff. Below them sit Pepco at Gyál, Auchan and Spar at Üllő, ALDI at Biatorbágy, Lidl at Ecser and Szigetszentmiklós, GLS at Alsónémedi and Waberer's at Ecser. The multi-tenant parks are on the same scale — CTPark Budapest West at Biatorbágy runs 330,167 m², DEPO at Törökbálint 232,716 m², Prologis Park Budapest-Sziget at Szigetszentmiklós 202,000 m².

The motorway geometry is unusually good because every radial out of Budapest crosses the county. The M0 ring meets roads 2, 11 and 4, the M3, the M5 at Gyál and the M6; the M31 links the M0 to the M3 at Gödöllő over 12,410 m of 2x2, completed in July 2010 specifically to take transit traffic off the M0 and M3; the M2 expressway runs 19,615 m from the M0 to Vác, opened to traffic in February 2021. The M1's first county junctions — Biatorbágy at km 17, Sasfészek-tó at km 22 and Herceghalom at km 26 — put the western industrial parks within a few kilometres of the motorway.

Two things the county does not have are worth stating plainly, because assuming otherwise misroutes freight. It has no rail-road intermodal terminal: BILK is Hungary's principal one and Pest county's own logistics review places it outside the county, inside Budapest's administrative boundary. And it has no national public freight port — the Danube facilities in the county are passenger landing stages, not cargo terminals. A multimodal facility at Érd is planned under the county development concept, but it is a plan.

Principales villes desservies

Érd, Budaörs, Dunakeszi, Vác, Gödöllő and Szentendre cover the county, but the freight weight sits in the southern agglomeration ring — Érd, Szigetszentmiklós, Üllő, Ecser, Gyál, Alsónémedi and Biatorbágy — where the distribution centres and logistics parks are concentrated along the M0.

The county's distribution estate is retail and e-commerce rather than automotive, so the dominant mapping is to our e-commerce service, with food and beverage and wine and beverages restocking for the grocery distribution centres. Technology, industrial machinery, construction materials and furniture run alongside them across the agglomeration ring.

Infrastructures et logistique locales : Pest County

The route into Pest county enters Hungary at Tornyiszentmiklós and runs about 236 km of continuous motorway — the M70 into the M7 — to the M0 ring, arriving on the south-western side of it. That is the side the county's warehouse belt is on, so the approach now meets the volume before it meets the capital; the M1 junctions at the county's western edge — Biatorbágy at km 17, Sasfészek-tó at km 22 and Herceghalom at km 26 — are reached from the ring rather than passed on the way in. From the M0 the radials do the rest: the M2 north to Vác, the M31 to Gödöllő, the M4 east towards Cegléd and Abony, and the M6 south to Százhalombatta — while Érd and Budaörs sit on the M7 approach itself, before the ring. That geometry is why the southern agglomeration became the warehouse belt, and why last-mile legs from a deconsolidated trailer stay short. Two constraints shape the schedule. The M0 ring is not closed in the north, so anything crossing between the Buda side and the north-east takes the long way. And the M1 widening to 2x3 lanes, with works on the km 16-39 stretch running to 30 September 2026 and lane closures at Herceghalom and Biatorbágy through August 2026, no longer sits on the inbound leg but still governs the county's M1 junctions and anything routed on to Győr. Both are already accounted for in the transit we confirm at quotation.

Questions fréquentes

What is the transit time from Spain to Pest county?

Pest county sits roughly 1,950 km from our Barcelona hub and LTL groupage delivers on the Monday and Friday departures, as a rule — the same profile as Budapest, since the county's freight addresses sit on the M0 ring around the capital. Transit is confirmed when we quote the shipment.

Do you deliver to the distribution centres around the M0?

Yes, that is the county's main volume. Ecser, Üllő, Gyál, Szigetszentmiklós, Alsónémedi, Dunaharaszti and Biatorbágy all price as standard Pest county coverage, including the large retail and e-commerce facilities and the CTPark, Prologis, HelloParks and DEPO estates.

Is there an intermodal terminal in Pest county?

No. Hungary's principal rail-road terminal is BILK, and although it sits immediately south of the county boundary it is inside Budapest's administrative area — Pest county's own logistics review says so explicitly. The county also has no national public freight port; its Danube facilities are passenger landing stages. All our Pest county deliveries arrive by road.

Which postcodes do you cover?

Prefixes 20, 21, 22, 23, 26 and 27 — the Pest county ranges around the capital. Any postcode under those prefixes prices as standard Pest county coverage.

Northern HungaryMiskolc · ~2150 km

Northern Hungary is the region where the road network stops behaving uniformly, and a carrier that quotes it as one delivery profile will be wrong about at least one of its three county seats. Miskolc sits roughly 2,150 km from our Barcelona hub, with LTL departing on Monday and Friday as a rule and transit by delivery zone.

The M3 crosses the region continuously — about 75 km through Heves and 44 km through Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén before leaving for Hajdú-Bihar — but it does not serve Miskolc. Miskolc is reached by the M30, which runs wholly inside Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén from its junction with the M3 at Emőd, at M3 km 149.646, north to the Slovak border at Tornyosnémeti, about 87 km. The Miskolc-Tornyosnémeti section, 56.632 km of new-alignment 2x2 motorway built for HUF 197.1 billion, opened to traffic on 19 October 2021.

Eger is not on a motorway at all. It is reached by the M25, classified as an expressway rather than an autópálya, 17.4 km long, branching off the M3 at km 107.468 and opened to traffic on 20 July 2020 after a final section costing HUF 43.18 billion. And Salgótarján is the sharp case: Nógrád county has no motorway and no expressway of any kind. Magyar Közút's network-length dataset records 0 km of autópálya and 0 km of autóút for the Nógrád directorate at 31 December in every year from 2018 through 2024, and no M-numbered road appears anywhere in the county in the 2024 traffic census.

What carries Salgótarján instead is road 21, a first-order main road that runs 2x2 for 14.8 km in Heves and 36.6 km in Nógrád and then drops back to single carriageway at km 57.888 — the last 7.1 km to the Slovak border are still not dual. The legacy road 3 through the region is single carriageway over 67.3 km in Heves and 87.0 km in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, against only 8.7 and 10.5 km of four-lane. KSH's own assessment, made when the region had 146 km of motorway and expressway, was that of its three county seats only Miskolc was directly connected to the motorway system. That is still the shape of it.

Miskolc, Eger, Tiszaújváros, Kazincbarcika, Gyöngyös and Salgótarján cover the region. Miskolc is on the M30 and Eger on the M25 expressway; Salgótarján and the Nógrád end of the region are reached entirely on main roads, principally road 21.

Infrastructures et logistique locales : Northern Hungary

The route into Northern Hungary enters at Tornyiszentmiklós and runs about 236 km of continuous motorway — the M70 into the M7 — to the M0 ring, takes the ring round to the M3 and then runs east — roughly 137 km from the ring to the M30 junction at Emőd — and finally the M30 north into Miskolc. Miskolc is about 456 km beyond the border, which makes this the long end of the Hungarian network and not the short one. Eger leaves the M3 earlier, at km 107.468, onto the 17.4 km M25 expressway. Salgótarján leaves the motorway network altogether. The region's logistics anchor is not automotive: none of Hungary's vehicle plants is here, and the largest documented facility is Bosch's logistics and distribution centre in the Miskolc Industrial Park, handed over on 14 February 2025 on a site of nearly 100,000 m² and costing over HUF 54 billion, dimensioned for roughly 204,000 pallets a year requiring about 3,300 truck shipments annually, at a Robert Bosch Power Tool site employing more than 3,700 people. There is no rail-road intermodal terminal anywhere in the region, and no Danube frontage at all — none of the 32 member ports of the Hungarian Federation of Danube Ports lies in these three counties. Everything arrives by road, which is why the state of road 21 matters as much as the state of the M30.

Freight enters at Tornyiszentmiklós, runs the M70 into the M7 to the M0 ring, the M3 east to Emőd and then the M30 north — Miskolc is on the M30, not on the M3 itself.

Is Salgótarján reached by motorway?

No, and it is the clearest case on the corridor. Nógrád county has recorded 0 km of motorway and 0 km of expressway in Magyar Közút's network dataset every year from 2018 to 2024. Salgótarján's traffic runs on road 21, which is dual carriageway for part of its length and drops to single carriageway for the last stretch to the Slovak border. We cover Salgótarján as standard, but the delivery window is planned around a main-road final leg.

What kind of freight moves on this lane?

Industrial machinery and technology freight into the Miskolc industrial estate and the Tiszaújváros and Kazincbarcika chemical and engineering base, plus construction materials for regional building supply. There is no automotive OEM in this region — Hungary's vehicle plants are at Győr, Esztergom, Kecskemét and Debrecen — so the mix here is genuinely different from the western corridor.

Southern Great PlainSzeged · ~2100 km

The Southern Great Plain is the best-connected of Hungary's eastern regions, because the M5 runs straight through it. Szeged sits roughly 2,100 km from our Barcelona hub, with LTL departing on Monday and Friday as a rule and transit by delivery zone, and freight reaches the whole Kecskemét-Szeged axis on expressway without leaving the network.

The M5 is the region's north-south spine, reaching Kecskemét — where the M44 joins it through a full cloverleaf interchange — and continuing to Szeged and the Röszke crossing into Serbia. From Szeged the M43 runs east to the Romanian border as 2x2 motorway, built in two stages: Szeged-Makó, 31,600 m, completed 20 April 2011, and Makó to the border, 23,125 m, completed 10 July 2015.

The M44 is the recent change, and it is a material one for Békéscsaba. The expressway was completed to 125 km on 15 April 2025 when the 32.2 km M5-Szentkirály section was handed over, connecting Békéscsaba to the network after sections opened in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024. Two caveats belong with that. The M44 is built as a 2x2 expressway without hard shoulders over its whole length, designed for 110 km/h. And it stops at Békéscsaba — the 43 km continuation to the Romanian border at Nagyszalonta is still in preparation with a design deadline of June 2028 — while at its western end the interchange works where it meets the M5 remain in construction with a planned completion of 28 February 2027.

Baja and the Danube side of the region are a different proposition. There is no expressway there at all: the M9 that would serve it, 60,000 m of 2x2 without hard shoulders running from road 51 and splitting near Jánoshalma, is in preparation with a design contract deadline of September 2027. Baja does host one of Hungary's three national public ports, whose operator describes it as an intermodal logistics centre at the intersection of road, water and rail with its own dedicated railway network — but freight for Baja arrives on main roads.

Infrastructures et logistique locales : Southern Great Plain

The route into the Southern Great Plain enters Hungary at Tornyiszentmiklós, runs the M70 into the M7 for about 236 km to the M0 and joins the southern ring straight off it — the approach reaches the ring on the same side the M5 leaves from, so nothing has to cross Budapest — and then the M5 south, Kecskemét, Kiskunfélegyháza, Szeged and on to Röszke, with the M43 branching east at Szeged towards Makó and the Nagylak-Csanádpalota border and the M44 branching east at Kecskemét to Békéscsaba. Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary operates its vehicle plant at Kecskemét, built with EUR 800 million of Daimler's EUR 1.4 billion compact-car investment. At Szeged, the PSP Terminal in the Kiskundorozsma district — operated by Petrolsped, majority-owned by Waberer's International — was reported in operation from 7 May 2024, built for nearly HUF 1 billion, able to hold more than 1,200 TEU at once and taking craneable and non-craneable semi-trailers as well as containers. Road access to the Szeged Industrial Park was upgraded with the widening of main road 5 to 2x2, recorded complete in December 2024. Hungary's HGV driving ban under Government Decree 190/2008 applies throughout, and it is already accounted for in the transit we confirm at quotation.

What is the transit time from Spain to Szeged?

Freight enters at Tornyiszentmiklós, runs the M70 into the M7 to the M0 southern ring and then the M5 south, staying on the expressway network the whole way and without crossing Budapest.

Is Békéscsaba reached by expressway?

Yes, since 15 April 2025, when the M44's final 32.2 km section from the M5 at Szentkirály was handed over and completed the expressway to 125 km. Two things are worth knowing: the M44 is built without hard shoulders over its whole length, and it stops at Békéscsaba — the continuation to the Romanian border is still in preparation.

How do you deliver to Baja?

On main roads. Northern Great PlainDebrecen · ~2200 km

The Northern Great Plain is the farthest region on the Spain-Hungary corridor, with Debrecen roughly 2,200 km from our Barcelona hub and LTL departing on Monday and Friday as a rule, with transit by delivery zone. It is also the region where the biggest industrial investment sits next to the biggest gap in the road network.

Debrecen is well served. The M35 reaches the city and forms both the northern and southern boundary of its 620-hectare North-Western Economic Zone, which comprises a 400-hectare BMW Group investment area and a 100-hectare supplier park bounded by main road 33 to the west, with ZF, the Schedl Group and EVE Power among the named supplier-park occupants; the M35/354 interchange rebuild started in February 2021. The separate Southern Economic Zone is a 710-hectare greenfield site adjoining Debrecen International Airport with about 16 km of internal roads, named HIPA Industrial Park of the Year in 2021, whose 14-hectare SME park phase — 16 companies, around HUF 13.2 billion invested, 256 jobs — was inaugurated in May 2025. Nyíregyháza is on the M3, and its industrial park is getting a new grade-separated junction at M3 km 230+488.

The gap is on the M4. There is no continuous motorway across the region: the Kisújszállás-Püspökladány section, 31.44 km, was still recorded as preparation-complete with the building permit held and no construction under way on a project sheet dated May 2026, and the adjoining Püspökladány-Berettyóújfalu section, 29.5 km, has been permitted since 2019 without being built. Either side of that hole the M4 does exist — the Törökszentmiklós-Kisújszállás section, 34.29 km, was in construction with handover scheduled for January 2026, and the Berettyóújfalu-Nagykereki section reached the Romanian border in August 2020. Roughly 61 km in the middle is missing, so east-west traffic across the region still uses main roads for part of the run.

The M3 has its own stopping point: it ends at Vásárosnamény, and the roughly 22.6 km continuation to the Ukrainian border at Beregdaróc is recorded as preparation-complete, not built. The M49 towards the Romanian border at Csenger is genuinely under construction in two lots, the first due September 2026 and the second June 2027.

The route into the Northern Great Plain enters Hungary at Tornyiszentmiklós, runs the M70 into the M7 for about 236 km to the M0 ring and then the M3 east across Northern Hungary before crossing into Hajdú-Bihar, with the M35 branching from the M3 at Görbeháza to reach Debrecen and the M3 continuing to Nyíregyháza and on to Vásárosnamény. Debrecen is about 503 km beyond the border, the longest Hungarian leg we run. The region's other significant asset is not on the road network at all: Záhony, where the 1435 mm and 1520 mm gauge networks meet, is operated by Záhony-Port of the MÁV Group and handled 4.2 million tonnes in 2023 — 3.1 million wide-gauge and 1.1 million standard-gauge — with 277 employees and EUR 23 million of CEF funding for crane modernisation. It is a gauge-change rail complex rather than a road-freight terminal, and we do not route groupage through it. There is no national public port anywhere in the region — the Danube does not flow through it at any point — and no operating rail-road intermodal container terminal has been identified at Debrecen, so everything we deliver here arrives by road. Hungary's HGV driving ban under Government Decree 190/2008 applies, and with this region at the far end of the corridor a slipped Saturday means a Monday delivery.

It is the farthest destination on the Spain-Hungary corridor, reached from Tornyiszentmiklós via the M70 into the M7, the M0 ring, the M3 east and then the M35.

Can you deliver into the Debrecen economic zones?

Yes. The North-Western Economic Zone runs to 620 hectares with the M35 forming its northern and southern boundary, and the Southern Economic Zone is a 710-hectare site next to the airport with about 16 km of internal roads. Both price as standard Debrecen coverage, including the supplier park addresses.

Is there a continuous motorway across the region?

Not yet. The M4 has a gap of roughly 61 km between Kisújszállás and Berettyóújfalu — both sections are permitted but unbuilt, one of them since 2019 — so east-west movement across the region still uses main roads for part of the run. It does not change the transit, but it is why we plan Szolnok and Jászberény deliveries separately from Debrecen ones.
