Western Transdanubia is where our Hungarian freight actually enters the country. The Hegyeshalom crossing sits inside this region, on the M1, and every consolidated trailer we run to Hungary — including the ones bound for Debrecen or Szeged — passes through it. That makes Győr the first place a trailer can be deconsolidated, and it is the reason this region carries the shortest transit on the corridor at 4-5 working days across two weekly departures.

The industrial case for the region is Audi. Audi Hungaria's Győr plant has operated since 1993 on cumulative investment of EUR 12.172 billion, and in 2022 it built 1,677,545 engines and 171,134 vehicles with 11,957 people on the payroll. Around it, the Győr Industrial Park — founded 1992, 210 hectares gross — hosts about 100 companies from 13 countries employing some 7,000 people, with 124 plots sold and EUR 702 million invested. For an inbound groupage operator that is a dense, repeat-order supplier belt rather than a single address.
The region does not have a single delivery profile, though, and pretending otherwise would misprice half of it. Győr and Sopron are reached entirely on tolled expressway: the M85 runs roughly 93 km from the M1 at Győr to the Austrian border at Sopron, completed on 14 December 2024 when the final 4.12 km Fertőrákos–Sopron section opened with its 780 m twin tunnel under the Bécsi-domb. The M86 branches at Csorna and runs north–south as a continuous 2x2 route to the Szombathely area.
Zalaegerszeg is the exception, and it is a real one. The M76 is tolled for only about 8.4 km — a stub from the M7 at Hollád to the Fenékpuszta area — and the three sections that would close the 34.6 km gap to Zalaegerszeg sit at completed-preparation stage with no construction date; the preparation project's own deadline passed in December 2020. The M9 between Vasvár and Zalaegerszeg, some 54.2 km across 17 municipalities, is in the same state, preparation having ended in August 2021. Main road 74 on to Nagykanizsa, about 50 km, is still single carriageway with substandard curve radii, and its rebuild is planned for the end of 2029. Deliveries into Zala run the last stretch on main roads, and we schedule them that way.
Győr, Sopron, Szombathely, Zalaegerszeg, Nagykanizsa and Mosonmagyaróvár cover the region. Győr and Sopron take the automotive and cross-border industrial volume on expressway all the way; the Zala end of the region is reached on main roads and is planned accordingly.

The route into Western Transdanubia clears La Jonquera into France, runs the A7/A5 to Strasbourg and the German Rhine axis, crosses Austria on the A1 and enters Hungary at Hegyeshalom, where the M1 begins its run east towards Budapest. Győr comes first, roughly 1,750 km from our Barcelona hub. From Győr the M85 carries Sopron traffic north-west to the Austrian border and the M86 carries Szombathely traffic south from Csorna. Two pieces of infrastructure shape delivery windows here. GYSEV Cargo runs its own container and combined-transport terminal at Sopron with 30,000 m² of storage, six crane-served loading tracks and four storage tracks. The Győr-Gönyű national public port — 110 hectares, 690 running metres of quay, direct rail connection, in operation since 1992 — is one of only three national public ports KSH reports on, and it loaded 225,420 tonnes in 2019. Against that, the M1 itself is a moving constraint: the corridor is being widened to 2x3 lanes plus intelligent hard shoulder, with the M0–Bicske phase due in August 2028 and Bicske–Concó in August 2029, and lane closures live through 2026. We build the works into the band rather than discovering them at the border.
Get a quote →The Audi supplier belt and the Győr Industrial Park map to our automotive and industrial-machinery services, the Sopron and Szombathely manufacturing zones to industrial machinery, and the agricultural south of the region around Nagykanizsa and Zalaegerszeg to food and beverage and wine and beverages. Construction materials, furniture and e-commerce restocking run across the whole region.
Győr sits roughly 1,750 km from our Barcelona hub and LTL groupage delivers in 4-5 working days on two departures a week. It is the first Hungarian city on the corridor because the Hegyeshalom border crossing is inside this region, so it carries the shortest transit of any Hungarian destination we serve.
No, and that is worth knowing before you plan a delivery window. The M76 is tolled for only about 8.4 km from the M7 at Hollád, and the 34.6 km of construction that would carry it to Zalaegerszeg is at completed-preparation stage with no construction date. The M9 from Vasvár is in the same position. The last stretch into Zalaegerszeg and on to Nagykanizsa runs on main roads, including main road 74, which is still single carriageway.
On our Spain-Hungary consolidations into this region the recurring categories are automotive components, industrial machinery and production tooling, which tracks the Audi plant at Győr and the supplier base around the Győr Industrial Park. Food and beverage and construction materials run alongside it, and pick up share towards the agricultural south of the region.
