Post-Brexit UK freight isn't a single lane — destination matters. Here's what the typical delivery profile looks like at each of our four primary UK destinations, based on the loads we run weekly.
Express 24–48h · LTL 3–4 days
Typical loadsFashion retail DCs (Stratford, Barking, Enfield), electronics distributors, food & beverage wholesalers serving central London restaurants and retailers.
Operational notesFolkestone arrival typical. M25 congestion can add 1–3 hours on delivery day. Evening/night deliveries arranged on request for central-London restricted zones.
Express 24–48h · LTL 3–4 days
Typical loadsAutomotive Tier 1 & Tier 2 plants (Solihull, Coventry), industrial machinery, manufacturing supply chain, e-commerce fulfilment centers.
Operational notesSlightly faster than London for many Spanish exporters — no London-area congestion. DHL/Amazon fulfilment clusters in Rugby, Daventry add volume.
Express 36–48h · LTL 3–5 days
Typical loadsRetail DCs (Trafford Park), fashion wholesalers, textile and apparel brands, food producers serving Northern retail chains.
Operational notesM6 corridor delivery. Trafford Park is a concentrated logistics park — efficient multi-drop possible on one truck.
Express 48h+ · LTL 4–5 days
Typical loadsScotland, South Wales, South West England. Regular capacity but less daily density; best booked 48h+ ahead.
Operational notesNorthern Ireland has distinct post-Brexit paperwork under the Windsor Framework and requires different broker handling — contact us directly for NI.
Three operational patterns cover most of our Spain-UK freight. If yours doesn't fit cleanly, it's almost always a variant of one of these.
Fashion or packaged consumer goods shipper in Spain, UK-side distribution centre. Scheduled LTL twice weekly, predictable transit, pre-lodged paperwork through our UK broker partner. The buyer holds a UK EORI and pays import VAT/duty as the importer of record. Most efficient model post-Brexit — paperwork becomes routine once your first shipment clears.
Industrial machinery or capital-goods exporter shipping a dedicated truck several times a year. Each shipment carries higher value so the broker relationship and origin documentation matter disproportionately. We recommend supplier-declaration origin paperwork for TCA preferential treatment if goods qualify — saves your buyer non-preferential tariff.
When the Spanish exporter wants to ship DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) — landing the load fully delivered with no surprises for the UK buyer — we coordinate with a UK broker partner who fronts the VAT and duty on the exporter's account. More paperwork for the shipper, cleaner buying experience for the consignee. Common for Spanish brands entering a UK market.
The commercial invoice figure must match the cargo value exactly. A rounded-up invoice (or one in different currency without clear conversion) is the single most common cause of held loads at UK customs.
UK consignee needs a UK EORI. If they don't have one, the import declaration can't be filed — paperwork is stuck regardless of how fast the truck moves. Get this sorted before the first shipment.
You're legally responsible for HS classification. A wrong code can mean wrong duty rate (you or your buyer overpays) or a customs query that delays the load.
You can only claim TCA preferential tariff treatment with correct origin documents (supplier declaration, EUR.1 for larger consignments). Claiming without docs means the buyer pays non-preferential rate — unpleasant surprise.
Foods of animal origin, fresh produce, and plant products need IPAFFS pre-notification on the UK side under BTOM. Missing it means the load can be refused entry. Your UK broker handles the notification — tell them what you're shipping.
NI has distinct paperwork under the Windsor Framework: green-lane / red-lane decisions, trusted-trader schemes. It's a different operational model from GB. Ask before booking for NI.
